If you feel like none of the political parties or candidates truly represent you or your values, there is still a way to make your voice heard at the ballot box. By spoiling your ballot, or intentionally marking it in a way that makes it invalid, you are sending a powerful message of resistance against the current political system.
When spoilt ballots outnumber the votes for political parties, we can show that we do not consent to being governed in this way. Your spoilt ballot is recorded and sends a message of non-compliance with the current system, while abstaining from voting is seen as apathy.
In 1703, the court case Ashby vs White established the concept of consent to be governed. By not voting, you are seen as tacitly agreeing to be governed. However, spoiling your ballot shows that you actively reject the current system.
Some messages you could include on your spoilt ballot are “I do not consent,” “No more war,” “Parliament is not sovereign,” “I am sovereign,” “Not my king,” “Release Julian Assange,” or “I was never asked.”
So, remember, a spoilt ballot is a vote for the resistance, and by doing so, you are legitimizing your non-consent with all laws except for the common law. The current system is broken, so why not vote for Mr. and Mrs. Spoilt Ballot instead?

A spoilt vote does absolutely nothing. You could equally argue that not voting is active rejection of the current system. You could equally argue that by entering the voting booth and writing anything on the ballot paper, you are endorsing the current system.
It would be a much better use of your time to:
1. Stand for election yourself, as an independent or with some party that aligns with your principles, or
2. Campaign with another candidate who aligns with your principles, or
3. If you want to reject the current system, start your own system.
With 1 and 2, even if you lose, you have still got some word out there.
Only a couple of people counting ballots will see the message on your spoilt vote, and they will ignore it.
If you stand on a busy street corner for 30 minutes handing out leaflets, you will reach 100x more people.
I suggest you watch the videos before you make comments. “You could equally argue that not voting is active rejection of the current system” complete nonsense. It is not recorded as a VOTE. It is recorded as an apathetic abstention in statistics. If all non voters spoilt their ballots (recorded in turnout and as a vote) they would be the majority proving parliament is NOT sovereign. Any laws are therefore not with consent of the governed. Judiciary, Crown and Parliament cannot argue that laws are the “democratic” will of the people. The people said no!
